If you’re looking for some gritty, cocky Southern-hued folk
‘n’ roll, look no further than ... four guys from Providence, R.I.? Yep, you
heard right, Deer
Tick craft deliciously filthy, heartfelt songs about life, love and associated
memories, tinged with a decidedly Southern sensibility. Lead singer John J.
McCauley III has a throaty, husky voice that that comes out as a powerful
bellow; he’s supported by a band that churns through their alt-country numbers
with confidence.
Deer Tick received heightened attention as the first band
profiled on BriTunes, an online interview program hosted by NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams,
and were noted as a “band to watch” by Rolling Stone Magazine. The
band’s third album, The Black Dirt Sessions, will drop in May. It
follows War Elephant and Born on Flag Day (named for McCauley’s
actual birthday).
